First Lutheran is a RIC parish. RIC, or "Reconciling in Christ" is a designation given by Lutherans Concerned to those congregations who are committed to being Gay friendly. Lutherans Concerned is the Lutheran equivalent of Dignity in the Roman Church or Integrity in the Episcopal/Anglican Church. RIC parishes are committed to being welcoming, nonjudgmental places where Gays, Lesbians, Bisexual and Transgendered persons may find a safe and comforting haven.
On any given Sunday you will meet openly Gay and Lesbian members and couples in our worshipping community. All persons are welcomed and accepted.
The New Jersey Synod of the ELCA, our parent denominational affiliate also recognizes itself as an RIC Synod. Our Bishop, Roy Riley Jr. encourages each congregation to provide pastoral care to all GLBT persons.
At the present time, a Women's support group named "Alternate Thursdays" meets regularly at the Church. Please call the church office at 973-744-6043 for the date of the next meeting.
Pastor Moser has officiated at several commitment ceremonies, and is open to having conversations with interested couples.
